Golden Gate Bakery, or GBB as their fans say, is the most lovable and mysterious bakery in Chinatown.
Because of their elusive business practice, GBB fans made a website to share the opening status of the bakery. The owner explains that this is because they will randomly take one day off between Monday and Thursday, and the staff also takes vacation at will. This fun tactic keeps tourists and locals anticipating the next time they will enjoy some delicious pastry.
One of the most popular items is the MVP Dan Tart, or custard tart. It will never disappoint. The crust is light, airy, and super flaky, there is a bit of salt so that the taste is well balanced in the molten creamy custard, and the tart is huge. They are currently $2.25 each or a dozen for $27.
Additional well-loved items include banana rice cakes, moon cakes, pineapple napoleon, and more!
Golden Gate Bakery is cash only, so come prepared! Also, the line can be long, but don’t be intimidated because it is worth the wait.
