Located in the impressive Ross Alley, Golden Gate Fortune Cookies is at the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Visitors from all over the world flock to this mini factory to experience the cookie making process with their own eyes–and taste buds!
This mom & pop shop makes up to 10,000 fortune cookies a day! The cookies are baked fresh on a rotating copper griddle wheel that slowly releases heat. Once cooked, they are gently twisted into the famous fortune cookie shape by hand as the message is carefully placed inside. In addition to the traditional vanilla flavored cookies, the team at the factory has also invented chocolate, strawberry, green tea, and glazed cookies over the years.
Owners Kevin Chan and his family are not only innovators, but they also take pride in being a part of San Francisco’s rich cultural heritage. Their craftsmanship is admired by tourists as well as the local community and city government. In 2016, the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory was officially named a San Francisco Legendary Business. And June 8, 2018 was officially declared as “Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Company Day” in San Francisco.
